Here’s a heart-warming local love story to dream of. This Ocean County local love story belongs to Jeff and Jess Katz.
In 2001, they met during band practice at Brick Memorial High School. He was a junior; she was a sophomore. In the band, Jeff was her “section leader.” In fact, he even taught Jess how to play the tuba. One day, after band practice, he asked Jess out and they started dating. They would have a wonderful time dating each other in high school. In 2003, Jeff graduated from high school and went off to college at the University of Delaware. Jess was still in high school. Although both Jess and Jeff dated other people during their time apart, they remained in contact with each other.
In 2006, Jeff, who wanted to be a pharmacist, moved back to Brick. At that time, Jess was working as a manager in the local Rite Aid. So, Jess got Jeff a job at the Rite Aid pharmacy. And since they were working together again – you’ve guessed it – they started dating each other.
One night in 2009, they went on a date to eat at Frankies Bar & Grill in Point Pleasant Beach. Afterwards, Jeff suggested that they go walk the boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach. At first, Jess was hesitant to go because of the summer crowds, but Jeff talked her into going. It was a good thing she agreed to go with him. They walked the boardwalk, went onto the beach and went on the jetty. It was there that Jeff went down on one knee and asked Jess to marry him. She agreed and they kissed as the beautiful Jersey Shore moonlight shined down on them.
Fast-forward to June 18, 2011: Jess and Jeff get married at the VFW on Brick. Before the wedding, they took their wedding pictures on the Jersey Shore beach. The wedding itself was small and casual. The theme for the wedding was “Jersey Beaches”, with decorations of boardwalks, seagulls and bright beach colors. Jess and Jeff’s friends from high school helped out with the wedding.
Soon afterwards, they moved to North Carolina so Jeff could attend Pharmacy School. Meanwhile, Jess works as a nurse. Their weekend getaways consist of visiting the splendid beaches in North Carolina (although Jess says that she misses the New Jersey beaches and can’t wait to move back to Ocean County). Jess describes her and Jeff as “the joking couple”, with lots of laughs and inside jokes from high school.
